1965 Gibson SG Standard

$7,500.00

Mid 60’s Gibson SGs, while not as immediately pricey as their early 60’s counterparts, are absolute rock machines, thanks to their Patent Number pickups (functionally identical to the famed PAFS, but with stickers on the back) and extremely playable, thin C profile necks that still retain the 1 11/16 nut of the more playable era in Gibson’s history.

This particular example, in a gorgeous walnut color (which is probably original, possibly a refinish) is a great sounding, nasty old guitar with a serious kick-in-the-pants tone. The electronics/pickups (with their brand new to 1965 Chrome covers, whoah!) are all original (though the pickups were removed and re-installed at some point) and the hardware, including the nylon saddle bridge are original as well, although the Maestro is missing its signature control arm.

The frets are, admittedly, quite low, though so is the price, so there’s plenty of room for possible future work.

Now, to the finish. This guitar has no serial number stamped on the back of the headstock, which is either due to Gibson’s extremely inconsistent behavior in the 60’s or a very old refinish, as the color is consistent with SG aging of this period (albeit one with extremely high UV exposure, looking at you Colorado). There’s no way to definitively tell, but we are certain that this is a 1965 Gibson SG, and that it’s a great old guitar!
