Early 1970's Gibson RB-250
Early 1970's Gibson RB-250
The later run of Gibson RB-250s lasted well into the modern era, with production beginning in the late 50’s, and cementing the mass produced design by the early 70’s, forgoing the “Bowtie” look (and sound) for a slightly lighter, much less sought after replacement. These 70’s banjos can still pack a punch, however, even if they don’t have the punch of their early 60’s counterparts, but they have a bright sound all of their own that sits well in a mix and records surprisingly well.
These 70’s RBs featured an 11 ply, black painted rim, a lightweight flathead tonering, and a slightly more rudimentary construction than the 60’s. This particular example is has a Clamshell tailpiece, original tuners with replacement buttons, and an old replacement Weatherking head.
Comes with Hard shell case.
